One mega-prompt can't run your marketing. Here's why.

I spent 3 months trying to build "the perfect prompt."

One prompt that handles research, strategy, copywriting, and SEO. Just feed it a topic, get perfect output.

It never worked.

Not because the AI wasn't smart enough. Because I gave it too much control.

Here's what Anthropic actually says:

In their guide "Building Effective Agents," Anthropic makes a critical distinction:

"Workflows are systems where LLMs and tools are orchestrated through predefined code paths. Agents, on the other hand, are systems where LLMs dynamically direct their own processes and tool usage, maintaining control over how they accomplish tasks."

When you use a mega-prompt, you're building an agent when you need a workflow.

The problem: You're letting the AI decide what to do next, which tools to use, what context matters. That creates freedom—but kills control.

When output is mediocre, you can't debug it. Was research shallow? Strategy off? SEO wrong? You have no checkpoints to validate.

You lost control when you gave the AI too much freedom.

The principle: You orchestrate. The AI executes.

Break the workflow into focused roles. YOU control which sub-agent runs when, with what context, using which tools.

Research sub-agent → Strategy sub-agent → Copy sub-agent → SEO sub-agent.

Each has ONE job. Each gets specific context from the previous step. YOU validate between steps.

That's not an agent making decisions. That's a workflow you control.

As Anthropic's context engineering guide explains: "Given that LLMs are constrained by a finite attention budget, good context engineering means finding the smallest possible set of high-signal tokens that maximize the likelihood of some desired outcome."

Small, focused prompts beat one mega-prompt. Each sub-agent gets just what it needs, nothing more.

How to start:

  1. Map the roles Break your workflow into distinct jobs (research, strategy, draft, optimize).

  2. Design the handoffs Define what each role needs from the previous one. Make it explicit.

  3. Validate between steps Check quality before moving forward. Don't let bad output compound.

Result: Full control. When something breaks, you know where. When it works, you know why.

Pick one workflow. Break it into 3-4 focused roles.

Write one prompt per role. Define the handoffs.

YOU run them in sequence. Validate each step.

That's orchestration. That's control.
